THE CHEMICAL CONTENTS AND PHARMACOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF ANAGALLIS ARVENSIS - A REVIEW

Anagallis arvensis is one of the plants which used medicinally for many purposes. The seeds of Anagallis arvensis contained flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids, glycosides, alkaloids and anthrequinones. The aerial parts of the plant contained alkaloids, bitter cucurbitacin glycosides, arvenin, I and II and cucurnitacin, B, D, E, I and L, sterols, ß-amyrin, rutin, n-hexacosane, lacceric acid, triterpene sanagalligenone, anagalligenin, carbohydrates and enzymes. Anagallis arvensis exerted many pharmacological effects including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, behavioral, antioxidant, cytotoxic, molluscicidal, taenicidal, expectorant, oestrogenic and other pharmacological effects. The present review will highlight the chemical constituents and the pharmacological and therapeutic effects of Anagallis arvensis
