Abstract

Wound healing is a dynamic and complex process which involves chain of orchestrated biochemical & cellular event leads to regenerate the growth of damaged tissue in a specific manner includes clotting, granulation, inflammation, epithelizatiom, granular tissue formation, tissue remodeling and collagen synthesis. Healthcare shows plant based knowledge in India with rich tradition. In india, tribals& folklore traditions shows the extraction of large number of plants, decoctions & pastes used to treat cuts, wounds and burns. Punica granatum (L.) Wild is from the family euphorbiaceae. This tree was widely distributed in south pacific and indo- malesia on westwards and tropically in india. The results suggest that treatment with alcoholic extract of Punica granatum (L.) may have a beneficial influence on the various phases of wound healing like epithelization, collagen synthesis, and wound contraction, resulting in faster healing. The wound healing potential of the Punica granatum (L.) extract may probably be as a result of the presence of a mixture of phytoconstituents including flavonoids and tannins.
