Abstract

Even in today’s height of success of allopathic medicines, medicinal plants still hold hidden treasures. The objective of the present study was to find out the health seeking behavior of the rural population and evaluate how they judge and differentiate between allopathic and natural medicines on basis of the following medicinal plants- Neem, Amlaki, Haritaki, Bohera, Liquorice root, Sarpagandha, Tulsi, Arjun, Dhutra, Shatamuli. No patient suffered side effect from using the 10 medicinal plant preparations surveyed. The present study sample did not support the notion in previous studies that medicinal plants are preferred because of availability. The present study finds that Pirojpur is severely lacking in woman’s modern healthcare need. There is one diabetic hospital located in Pirojpur. The present study encourages establishment of cardiac center in Pirojpur
