Abstract

The properties of water has been very elaborately studied and established with various methods. The unique physical and chemical properties are very distinct for its specific behaviour in the three existing forms of solid, liquid and gas. The present study gives a concise collection of the properties of water, its behaviour, factors influencing them and the theory related to them. The physical factors like the temperature, pH, crystal formation of cold, warm and boiling water was studied at the room temperature .All the studies were carried out such that the freezing of the water samples had similar platform and not in contact with the freezer. The first work was done with pH variation using indicators bromothymol blue with a pH 6 for boiling water and pH 7-6 for distilled water with a colour of yellow and blue respectively. The nucleation formed was found to be uniform in the case of boiling water. The room temperature was found to be 21oC. The second work was carried out with five different samples of water consisting of boiled and cooled water, sonicated water, boiling water, distilled water and warm water. The temperature changes during freezing for every 15 minutes and during melting for every 5 minutes were noted. Equal volume of samples was taken and the volume changes were noted during and after freezing. The pH changes were noted after freezing and melting of the samples at a room temperature of 31oC. The third work was carried out with equal volumes of water samples of distilled water, underground water, boiling water and boiled – cooled water with indicators like bromothymol blue and phenol red. Phenol red has a pH range of 6.8-8.4 having the colour from orange to red. The fourth work was carried out with distilled water and boiling water noted for the seed crystal formation and the temperature changes. The present work clearly shows that the different nature of water samples, change in volume with temperature, pH changes of different samples of water have an influence on the freezing point of boiling water. The different physical properties such as density , convection current present in boiling water , surface tension , di electric constant , ionic product of water, thermal conductivity , dissolved gases , degrees of freedom , viscosity and the temperature are responsible for the unique behaviour of water
